Working in partnership with Queensland Government and Cairns Airport Pty Ltd, AFHS have now completed the development of a customised Regional Trade Distribution Center (known as RTDC), located adjacent the international terminal at Cairns Airport in Far North Queensland, Australia

RTDC is the solely purpose designed facility practically reachable to regional producers. The engagement with Air Freight Handling Services a high experience regional freight operator, in delivering this industry asset, has resulted in an acutely unique investment of IP that is internationally informed but regionally specific. 

Being designed from first principles however in full compliance with commercial and international standards, has provided to the regional economy, an airfreight asset that is benchmarked to world’s best practice and, importantly, is also uniquely North Queensland in its functionality.

In October 2019 the Department of State Development provided funding assistance for the development of a Regional Trade Distribution Centre in Cairns. The grant recipient was Air Freight Handling Service Pty Ltd.

Extensive discussion with Cairns Airport Pty Ltd provided a suitable location on the airport lease adjacent the international terminal.

The procurement phase of the RTDC Cairns was delayed with the supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID pandemic. Project construction commenced in Feb 2022 and practical completion was achieved in November 2022

The aviation and freight Industry continues rebuilding after Covid but remains confronted with the headwinds of global uncertainty in aviation markets. All reasonable efforts have been implemented in the strategic management of the RTDC project to anticipate the impact of the global economic tumult of recent years. Demonstrating the success of these strategies, has been the building outcome, recognised as a significant regional asset. 

On the 8th March, the Regional Trade distribution Centre was officially opened by The Honourable Cameron Dick MP, Treasurer and Minister for Investment.

Training, commissioning, and licencing is now complete
